Between Florence and Siena, surrounded by the green hills of Chianti, the beauty of Tavarnelle val di Pesa has remained intact over the centuries. Originally called Tabernulae, from the latin word for tavern, taberne, it was a place where riders rested on their journeys. It was a crossroads that connected Florence to the medieval Francigena road that linked Roma with lands beyond the Alps. When you look out at this ancient landscape you have the sensation that time has stood still. Every day is an opportunity for discovering castles, medieval hamlets and artistic jewels hidden inside churches.
In the gentle hills of Chianti, there is a tiny medieval hamlet, where you’ll find the Ristoro l’Antica Scuderia restaurant. Its name, which means the Old Stable, recalls the hamlet’s origins as a resting place where travellers could change their horses before continuing along the road known as Via Gardingo di Passignano. Careful restoration work has created an elegance that is evident in every detail. The restaurant invites you to discover the best of Tuscan cooking; outside is a garden immersed in the the green of cypress trees and surrounded by splendid vineyards.
